Never thought this day would come

Never thought this day would come

I'll never forget the day was June 18, the location, Yale School, Cherry Hill, New Jersey. I was so proud and nervous at the same time. I think I was more exicted than him. This was the day my baby would graduate High School. I remember like it was yesterday the day he was born. I thought he was perfect and he was to me. As he got a little older I found out that he had Autism and to me he was still perfect but to the world almost perfect but not quite. He was non verbal until he was around 6 and we prayed for him to speak. He used to have violent tantrums and used to beat up his sisters. He did everything that most people would think was outrageous but to me he was a new learning experience and I knew in time that i would be able to get through. I remember people telling me that I would probably have to keep him on medication forever, that he would never be able to live on his own and that he would never graduate. But, here he is 18 years old graduating high school with a scholarship and getting ready to drive. He loves the concept of blogging and he has many friends on facebook. He communicates and loves to get feedback from people. He has started a couple of groups on facebook as well. I'm so proud of him. In school he worked in the television production office and that is what he wants to do when he gets older. It helps that his father is in the same field. I can't believe all the obstacles that he has faced in life and has overcome. I wish the same for all the parents of Austistic children everywhere. My heart goes out to you.
